Proper Business Manners

The most important thing about running a holiday park business is knowledge on the difference between leading and managing, and knowing when to use either one. There are definite management styles and skills to focus on and it is of essence that the business owner or manager understands that in order to effectively incorporate it into one's own behaviour. To be a good manager, one needs to understand what motivates their employees. A manager needs to build an environment and culture in the workplace that encourage employee participation, increase productivity as well as employee satisfaction.

In order to be an effective manager, one needs to understand the common business management styles in order to determine which skill, attitude and market strategy to use when managing a holiday park.

Autocratic is the management style wherein a manager makes all the decision. The manager who uses this style has his focus solely on the business and does not let anything to get in the way. This management style makes decision making fast, but alienates employees from important events in the company.

Paternalistic is the management style wherein a manager still makes all the decision, but puts more emphasis on the employees' welfare. This management style makes employees feel that the company values them a lot, thus motivating them to be more productive.

Democratic is the management style wherein a manager is open to any input from the employees and practices the principle that majority rules. This makes employees feel more involved in the business, thus the right decisions are made.

In a passive management style, a manager delegates various tasks to his employees. This allows employees to grow in the business by learning from the tasks given to them.

In order to understand the business better, the manager needs to understand the different kinds of styles, skills and qualities and learn how to take control over them and use them whenever necessary.
